Kristen Graves is a singer/songwriter and humanitarian from Fairfield, CT, who has been listed as part of the “new generation of folk music” in the New York Times, mentioned in Rolling Stone for her musical activism, and has been given her own day across the state of Connecticut to honor the arts, compassion and social justice. She has shared the stage with Rusted Root, Dar Williams, Peter Yarrow and Noel “Paul” Stookey [of Peter, Paul & Mary], Harry Belafonte, and the late Pete Seeger. With catchy songs, a penchant for story telling, and inspiring lyrics, Kristen performs hundreds of shows annually and has toured through the United States, Mexico, Central America and Europe. She has 9 recordings currently available, with an upcoming bilingual album in the works. Currently working on her PhD in Ethnomusicology at the University of Toronto, Kristen has recently expanded her performances to include speaking at conferences, writing papers, producing blog posts, and recording episodes of her new podcast: Soon to Be Dr. G. Please visit www.kristengraves.com for her newest music and more information.
Lara Herscovitch is singer-songwriter-poet-performer gem. As described in The Boston Globe, she brings “a luminous voice and a buoyant stage presence… big-hearted lyrics embrace the sum of life… Herscovitch’s music blows on the embers of a lagging spirit or a dormant creative life.” Lara leads with authenticity, integrity, humor and heart. Sound Waves Magazine described her music as “expertly written prose… songwriting at its best… good for your ears AND your soul.” Acoustic Live in New York City added, “She possesses not only a huge reservoir of musical talent and a voice with a bell-like clarity, but a keen sense of global concern and a fierce intellect… It might seem too good to be true, but true it is.” LaraHerscovitch.com
From the Spring of 2016 through June 2018, Kate Callahan served as Connecticut’s 16th State Troubadour. An award winning singer-songwriter and advocate for the disempowered, Kate developed a pilot program called Miracle of Melody to help women inmates learn to use their voices for positive change in their lives. More recently, she has created a program called Affirming Voice through which she helps individuals discover and empower their authentic, and unique voice. A soulful and optimistic performer, Kate is a staple in the Connecticut scene, and was named Best Folk Artist of the Year in July 2019.
Nekita Waller is a professional singer who has been performing in the state for decades. She won a statewide talent contest as a teen and had her stage debut at the Apollo Theater before Steve Harvey. Nekita currently performs popular music with a band and sings for special events such as Veterans Day and Martin Luther King Day programs, and in nursing homes, schools, and other venues. Nekita is Connecticut’s current State Troubadour.
