Matt Nakoa and Sister Funk – Folk Fridays Concert Series
November 1 @ 7:30 pm
Matt Nakoa and Sister Funk
Matt Nakoa is an award-winning songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist. A modern troubadour, he makes his home on the highways and concert stages of America, and appears regularly with folk music icon Tom Rush. The Boston Globe says of Nakoa, “Between his piano chops and heartfelt originals on guitar, he drops jaws.”
Nakoaʼs newest album, Casting Shadows, is a spellbinding blend of pop, soul, and classical influences that tells a story of childhood dreams crashing headlong into grownup reality. The Ark of Music magazine proclaims, “What we have here is a truly encouraging sign of what pop could once again become …”
The Sister Funk Trio is 3 of the 5 members of Sister Funk, the high energy all female band. The trio is just as contagious and provides a more intimate look into their melodic melodies and acute storytelling. Their folk influenced groove-rock originals will transport you from the mundane to a toe taping and refrain sing-along experience.
With 4 full length CDs and close to 20 years of performance history the Trio brings a diverse sound and style to each show. The connection these ladies have with music and with one another is unparalleled. They invite you to experience it with them.
