Festival Auditions

Auditioning for the Connecticut Folk Festival

CT Folk produces the Connecticut Folk Festival & Green Expo each year in New Haven on the first Saturday after Labor Day Weekend. This is a free outdoor event in Edgerton Park with a main stage, a community performance tent, activities for children, and at least 75 “Green Living” exhibitors, educators, and vendors. Musicians perform continually from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m.

The application deadline is February 2nd. Applicants must be able to perform in New Haven on April 6th. The 2018 Connecticut Folk Festival & Green Expo will take place on September 8th.

Two of the Festival performance slots are reserved for musicians, whether solo-artists or groups, who successfully audition during a special Folk Fridays, the monthly concert series that CT Folk produces each year from October through May.

Musicians (solo-artists or groups) from New England, New York, or New Jersey who are interested in performing at Auditions Night may apply, without cost, by submitting a video of one song to

The Selection Process

A committee will review the submissions — last year there were more than 75 — and will invite 12 of the applicants to perform for 10 minutes before an audience on Auditions Night. The audience, using CT Folk’s feedback sheet, will submit comments and will rank the artists in order of preference. CT Folk’s Board of Directors, taking the Audience Feedback into consideration, will select the musicians who will be invited to perform at the Connecticut Folk Festival.

Applicants will be notified of their status prior to February 23rd. Applicants are not compensated for participating in this voluntary process, including performances during Auditions Night in New Haven.
