Auditioning for the Connecticut Folk Festival
CT Folk produces the Connecticut Folk Festival & Green Expo each year in New Haven on the first Saturday after Labor Day Weekend. This is a free outdoor event in Edgerton Park with a main stage, a contra dance, activities for children, and at least 75 “Green Living” exhibitors, educators, and vendors. Musicians perform continually from 11 a.m. through 10 p.m.
The 2017 Connecticut Folk Festival & Green Expo will take place on September 9th.
Three of the Festival performance slots are reserved for musicians, whether solo-artists or groups, who successfully audition during Folk Fridays, a monthly concert series held from October through May.
This year Auditions Night will take place on April 7th.
The application deadline was February 3rd at midnight.
Applicants must be able to perform in New Haven on April 7th and, if selected for the Festival lineup, on September 9th.
THE SELECTION PROCESS: A committee will review the submissions — last year there were more than 80 — and will invite 12 of the applicants to perform for 10 minutes before an audience on Auditions Night. The audience, using CT Folk’s feedback sheet, will submit comments and will rank the artists in order of preference. CT Folk’s Board of Directors, taking the Audience Feedback into consideration, will select the musicians who will be invited to perform at the Connecticut Folk Festival.
Applicants will be notified of their status no later than February 24th.
Applicants are not compensated for participating in this voluntary process, including performances during Auditions Night in New Haven.
